6. THE ACCURACY ANALYSIS

Accuracy of image compression influences significantly the quality of multimedia content. An often used global objective quality measure is the mean square error (MSE) defined as

where n and m are the total pixel. F(i,j) and f(i,j) are the pixel values in the compressed and original image. Another quality measurement is peak to peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR in dB) that is defined as

PSNR computes the peak signal-to-noise ratio between the original and compressed image whereas the MSE represents the cumulative squared error between the original image and compressed image. The higher PSNR, the better quality of compressed image.
